Tartaria sive Magni Chami Imperium. - Blaeu J., 1650.

Antique map of Tartary by Blaeu J.

Siberia, in the seventeenth century known as Tartary, situated in north and northeast Asia, may as well have been completely unknown territory. On the map itself there are many mythical and legendary references, like the devils and dragons in the Lop desert to the west of the Great Wall of China. Much of this information comes from the travel accounts of Marco Polo. The title appears on the saddle blanket of a dromedary ridden by a child and driven by two adult Mogols.
