This map appeared first in 1618 with four decorative borders, published by Jodocus Hondius. After Hondius' death in 1629 the plate passed into the hands of Henricus, his brother. Henricus removed the map's decorative borders to facilitate easy fitting into his atlas, and replaced his brother's imprint with that of his own, adding a date of 1631. Its first appearance in an atlas was not until L'Appendice, 1633. It then occurs in most of the future editions of the Atlas Novus.
