This map of the Iberian Peninsula by Vincenzo Luchini is based on the map by Vincenzo Paletino. It is a faithful copy of Hieronimus Cock's map, published in Antwerp in 1553.
Vincenzo Luchini (Active in Rome between 1544 and 1568)
Vincenzo Luchini, of Bolognese or Brescia origin, was active in Rome as a publisher and bookseller in the second half of the 16th century. He called himself Libraro Romano and had the shop in Pellegrino.
We find him cited for the first time in the title pages of Roman editions in 1552. In 1554 he printed the first Jesuit editions and became the trusted bookseller of the Roman Jesuits and the Vatican Library.
Between 1556 and 1566, he published various prints and maps. He was often accused of plagiarism as he copied the works of others, modifying their dates and subscriptions to pass them off as his own.
He also had relations with the Venetian market. As shown by his map of Switzerland, where you can read the signature Venetiis Anno 1556 apud Vincentius Luchinus, he probably must have had a shop in Venice.
He probably died in Venice between 1569 and 1571.
