Rare
Italy by Donato Rascicotti, published in Venice by Steffano Scolari. 1664

Second state of Rascicotti's extremely rare map of Italy.

The map appears to be a faithful copy of Domenico Zenoi's work of 1567.
The sea stippling on this map is extremely fine and dense, giving an effect resembling aquatint engraving.

Bifolco-Ronca quotes only one copy of this second state (Bergamo, Collezione Moreschi) and 4 copies of the first state.

Donato Rascicotti (active in the 17th century)

Donato Rascicotti was a publisher, trader and printer of prints, Brescia origin but active in Venice, and perhaps also in Bologna and Rome.
He is sometimes referred to as Rasciotti and Rosigotti. According to some, he should be Donato Resegato "printer of drawings", arrested in Rome in 1577 on charges of stealing drawings from Lafreri's shop. In Venice, his shop was at the Ponte dei Barettieri. On 7 March 1598, Rascicotti obtained a 25-year privilege from the Venetian Senate to publish a new collection of topographical views and prints. He published some works by Agostino Carracci, in their first state, and republished old plates of Tramezzino and Rota.
