" A revision of the early version from the Vulgate, first issued in 1477: prepared by Alexander Blankaert, a Carmelite, and others, under the supervision of the authorities of Cologne University. The Theological Faculty of Louvain afterwards condemned it. Printed "met Keyserlyker Genade ende Privilegien." (Darlow & Moule)
The translation by Blanckart was made by order of Georg van Egmond, bishop of Utrecht. There was only one edition of this bible.

Cologne, J. van Gennep, 1548 (colophons dated 1547). 2 part in 1 vol. Folio (35 x 24 cm) Recased in a 17th cent. Dutch binding (spine restored), blind stamped Russia over wooden boards with brass corner pieces and clasps.
Large woodcut borders around titles and numerous woodcut illustrations in the text. Marginal waterstained in some places, some thumbing. The bottom corner of the last text page is torn off and backed with (old) paper, with some loss of text.
