**Jacques Barraband** (1767-1809), a superlative bird artist, had worked in a variety of environments: in the Gobelin tapestry works, and at the Sèvres porcelain factory. *"Barraband's drawings for the 'Histoire naturelle des oiseaux de paradis' place him at the forefront of French ornithological artists at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
