Virgil Solis (1514-1562) was a German Renaissance artist from Nuremberg, active as a designer, engraver and woodcut artist. He is best known for his prolific output of book illustrations and ornamental designs, many of which were widely published and reused by printers across 16th-century Europe.
Georg Mack (active c. 1570-1590) was the most important and finest colourist of prints of the 16th century, active in Nuremberg. In this case, the colouring is exceptionally signed and dated "1581", with his name written out in full.
