Zeeland by M. Smallegange, published by P. van der Aa. 1728

While most maps of Zeeland are oriented to the North, this one is oriented to the West, allowing a larger area to be depicted.

Mattheus Smallegange (Goes, 1624 - 1710)

Mattheus Smallegange was a Dutch historian, lawyer, genealogist, and translator.

His best-known work was the Nieuwe Cronyk Van Zeeland, an extensive illustrated description of Zeeland. The Cronyk was published in 1696 but appeared only in 1700 in Middelburg. The work is a continuation and summary of the chronicles of Jacobus Eyndius (Chronici Zelandiae) and Johan Reygersberg (Dye Chronijck van Zeelandt). A second part was foreseen but never appeared.
